Resident Orca Superpod!

Resident Orca Superpod!

Mystic Sea left port this morning under a cloudy sky that quickly gave way to sunshine. We cruised towards Victoria where we found a sight that has been rare this year – a Superpod! Members from all 3 of our Resident Orca Pods were there – J-pod, K-Pod, and most of L-Pod – more than 50 black and whites! All on board were thrilled to see this large group of families come together to eat. We looked on as they breached in the distance, and upon closer look were also slapping their tails! Both of these behaviors are indicative of feeding (hopefully on tasty Chinook Salmon). After an amazing day with our endangered southern resident killer whale population, we began our return voyage home, making a stop to view seals along the way. ~Amy W., Mystic Sea
