Quality cruises set us a notch above the rest
The M/V Mystic Sea is a fast, ocean-rated, coast guard certified vessel that can put you on the whales first. As we value quality over quantity, we limit the number of people on our daily cruises to 60 instead of filling the boat to maximum capacity; this allows for more space so everyone can be comfortable while cruising through the San Juan Islands. Fortunately - or unfortunately - we choose to only do one whale watch cruise per day, because without an afternoon deadline of another whale watch trip, our captains can give you more quality time to enjoy the wildlife and the fantastic scenery, as well as watching the whales.
The resident Orca Whales of J, K, and L pods can move up to 100 miles in a day, so some days they are only 20 minutes away from Anacortes, and other days they can be three hours away - near Victoria or Point Roberts. If we need to go the extra mile or take the extra hour to get you whales, we will. We don’t make claims to be number one – we just find you whales and make sure you have fun doing it!

We welcome individuals as well as groups, and specialize in private charters for weddings, corporate events, parties and more. For our daily cruises Frank's Franks has excellent lunch service available onboard for reasonable prices; beverages, snacks, deserts, and everything from homemade deli-style sandwiches to chili and bread bowls. There are also binoculars onboard that you are welcome to borrow, as well as games, books and cards for the kids to play with.

Exceptional safety record
Our safety record is more than just a reflection of our exceptional 100ft. ocean-rated vessel; it is also a reflection of the captains and crew. Born and raised in the San Juan Islands, Captain Monte Hughes and his wife, Cindy, have owned and operated the 100ft. M/V Mystic Sea for over 20 years. Captain Hughes has more than 40 years of experience on the water. In addition to being local naturalists, Mystic Sea captains and crew are seasoned mariners, whose depth of experience comes from doing extensive commercial sea time in the San Juan area as well as in far-off and un-tamed places like the Bering Sea and Antarctica.
